Innovative Bridge Designs for Rapid Renewal (R04)

Overview

Choosing accelerated bridge construction technologies can reduce the time bridges are closed for construction, thus reducing or eliminating the need for long term detours. The Innovative Bridge Designs for Rapid Renewal (R04) product includes standard design plans for foundation systems and substructure and superstructure systems, subsystems, and components that can be installed quickly with minimal traffic disruptions.

Implementation Assistance Program
  • In Round 1 of the Implementation Assistance Program, nine states received technical and financial support to implement R04. They were: Arizona, California, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. Additional states were engaged through FHWA’s Every Day Counts initiative.
